Daredevil – Season 2, Episodes 5-10 In which our characters have a few issues

I don’t think it’s too spoilery to say that the main point of this middle block of Daredevil episodes is that Matt Murdock is kind of a big jerk. He wants to run everything but then can’t stick around to actually, you know, run things, because he’s too busy trying to be in charge of something else.

Thoughts that are too spoilery continue below the break…

WILSON FISK! Woo hoo! The scenes of him negotiating with Frank, or explaining things to Matt, are so awesome, just for Vincent D’Onofrio’s enunciation. I could watch a whole show of Wilson Fisk interviewing people. Bernie Sanders. “I know men like you, I’ll have nothing to do with your kind.” “You may desPISE me, but I believe that in this INstance our INterests are aLIGNed.”

Meanwhile, wow, screw you Matt Murdock. First you nearly get Elektra killed by telling her what to do in the middle of a fight, then you sing a whole song about Hey throw away your life and come live with me it’ll be great babe. Then she does, but turns out to have some ENTIRELY PREDICTABLE issues, and you’re all Wow too much drama, later, I need my space. Is there one thing that he’s succeeded at past the first 15 minutes of the first episode? Compared to all the so many things that he has fucked up?

I’d like to see Foggy and Karen move on, for those characters’s sakes and as a consequence for Mr. Murdock, though I suspect that the plot and overall structure of the show won’t allow that. That weakens the emotional realism, absent some pretty damn dramatic developments in the rest of the season.

I don’t know the comics so I was suprised that Elektra was her actual name. I feel like I’ve seen this character before in many ways, but Élodie Yung does a good job with it. Cannot have too many smart women kicking butt on TV, after all.
